The Bloemfontein-based football outfit Railway Masters FC has scooped the sought-after trophy of the Bloemfontein Masters League for the 2023 season. The club won the title with one match to spare.
The newly-crowned champions finished on 78 points, while contenders Bobbies Park Masters FC and Cairo Masters FC finished in the second (73) and third place (70), respectively.
The club was presented the floating trophy and gold medals at the Clive Solomon Stadium in Bloemfontein on 27 April.
The victorious side has atoned for losses suffered to Bubchu United FC two seasons prior.
Established in 2014, Railway boasts with retired professional players who, during their prime, played for the Bloemfontein Young Tigers, Moroka Swallows, Welkom Stars and the now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic.
These players include Cecil Oersen, Lucky Molao, Benny Rakometsi, Mbulelo Sohe, Timothy Kgasane, as well as Mokole “Gie” Molise.
Molise is the club’s current coach and a former Tigers defender, while David Koloane is the administration manager.
The Masters League is comprised of 18 clubs representing both the private and public sector of Bloemfontein, Botshabelo, and Thaba Nchu.
