Storytelling, or “ditshomo”, was at the heart of the Charmza Literary Club’s celebrations of Africa Day this year. On Thursday (25/05) an event was held as part of the literacy education of about 3 000 learners of the Unity Primary School and the Monyatsi Primary School. It was part of a continued effort to improve learners’ ability to read with comprehension. This is especially relevant following findings that about 81% of Gr. 4 learners in South Africa struggle with basic reading comprehension. This number has increased considerably in the past seven years. Renowned author, playwright, actor and radio presenter Dr Khotso Nkhatho (photo) attended the event.
