The Central University of Technology(CUT), Free State, is hosting the second annual Dr Khotso Nkhatho public lecture at the Bloemfontein campus today. Dr Boitumelo Moreeng will deliver the lecture, focusing on curriculum studies and history education.
The lecture is themed “A critical reflection on the role of education in a transforming society: A case of South Africa.” It will start at 14:00 until 16:00 in the Prosperitas Auditorium at the Bloemfontein campus.
Moreeng, a teacher by profession, is head of a department and subject advisor at the Free State Department of Education in the Motheo Education District.
He is currently a senior lecturer and head of department at the University of the Free State’s (UFS) Faculty of Education.
The lecture aims to celebrate the life and immense contribution of Nkhatho to the conservation and development of the Sotho language. His contribution is through producing a series of television and radio dramas in Sotho. Nkhatho is a renowned author, playwright, actor, and radio personality.
In 2021, the university conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Communication and Language Practice, recognising his contribution to the conservation and development of Sotho in the Free State at a time when indigenous languages were not recognised as the media of instruction in a multilingual South African society.
