The men’s football side of the University of the Free State (UFS) will be looking to improve their position on the Varsity Football table, at the expenses of Vaal University of Technology (VUT) when they face off at Shimla Park on Thursday (17/08).
Currently third on the log, victory will see the Kovsies dethrone title holder the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), pending on the champions’ outing against the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
The Kovsie lads are still buoyant after their first win, 1 – 0, against the UWC.
They are one of three undefeated teams that include current leaders TUT and the University of Johannesburg (UJ), second on the log with five points. The UFS men are compelled to prove their pedigree, having lost in the final last year against the TUT players.
In another encounter of great interest to Bloemfontein football teams, the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, is pressured to make amends against the North West University (NWU).
The tough fixture will be played at the Mafikeng Stadium. The CUT is yet to register a win, having collected two points in matches wherein they drew nil-nil and one-all against the University of Fort Hare (UFH) and UWC, respectively.
The CUT is at the bottom of the log and is one the three teams, including UFH and UWC, still without a win.
