An honorary doctorate in Philosophy in Management Sciences was bestowed upon Shameel Joosub by the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, at its spring graduation ceremony on 1 September.

This recognition in the field of Business Administration pertains to Joosub’s outstanding achievements and profound impact on the corporate landscape. Since he assumed the position of chief executive officer (CEO) at Vodacom in 2012, his role has seen this South African mobile communication company become 50% female-oriented.

Joosub holds an honours degree in Accounting Science, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) qualification from the University of Southern Queensland and an Advanced Management Program certificate from Harvard University.

He expressed great appreciation for the recognition.

“A special thank you to those who saw potential in a young child, and for providing me with the opportunities to grow my career. You believed in me when I started, and laid the foundation for my remarkable journey,” he said.

To drive change in the telecommunications industry, he prioritises a diverse working environment and supporting gender empowerment, boosting female participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem).
