The University of the Free State (UFS) has received an overwhelming number of applications for 2024. The institution indicated that 240 393 applications for first-year students had been received, after the matric results were announced on Thursday, 18 January.
From the large number of applications received, the university stated that only 8 100 were placed to study at the three campuses, Qwaqwa and the other two in Bloemfontein. The university has 59 satellite campuses where students can pursue their studies. The UFS has seven faculties from which students who qualify can further pursue their studies.
The main campus in Bloemfontein can accommodate 29 684 students and the South campus 2 725, while the Qwaqwa campus can accommodate 6 929 students.
The process of the registering of students is expected to be completed by the end of January.
