Auditions for the Heidedal Music Expo will take place in the Norman Doubell Hall on Saturday, 10 February, and Sunday.
One of the organisers, Dr Nathan Bagrette, says this is open to all young people.
“It is not only for the youths living in Heidedal, but for young people in Bloemfontein who want to improve in their respective art forms.”
Young people from the ages of six to 36 years can audition.
Bagrette explains the auditions will be presented much like in the TV series Idols, with eliminations taking place and the youngsters with the most talent being invited to take part in the programme.
“We are looking for promising young artists who want to develop their talent and need opportunities to take their talent further.”
The following acts are welcome to audition: vocalists, bands, instrumentalists, rappers, musical poets and deejays.
Vocalists can complement their act with an instrument, if they can play, but they need to provide their own.
Registration will on both days start at 08:00, and auditions will take place until 16:00 on Saturday and 14:00 on Sunday.
Talented youths will be selected to take part in workshops, as well as the concert taking place in the Norman Doubell Hall on Friday, 15 March.
The participants in the workshops that will run from 11 to 15 March will be coached by professionals from the Bloemfontein music industry.
“I believe music brings people together,” says Bagrette.
“This platform provides a fantastic opportunity for raw talent to be developed.”
At the workshops, there will be a specific focus on the prevention of drug abuse amongst the youth.
Another important message that will feature at the workshop is how destructive gender-based violence (GBV) is.
“The group that will be chosen at the auditions, will have to work on two songs on these subjects, which will be performed at the show on 15 March,” Bagrette confirms.
