A Centlec electrician is recovering from multiple injuries he sustained in what appears to be a robbery with aggravating circumstances, through the use of sharp object by two men in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein. The victim, Sello Makae, is reportedly recovering after receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for injuries sustained on his face and body, as well as leg.

Lele Mamatu, spokesperson for Centlec, said the two assailants reportedly attacked and robbed Makae during the night on Thursday, 22 February. The unknown assailants were armed with sharp objects.

“The perpetrators stabbed him in the leg and in the face during the attack, and demanded his wallet and cell phone. Makae was one of our team of electricians on standby-duty in Freedom Square on the night he was attacked and robbed of his belongings,” said Mamatu.

He said the perpetrators appeared to be lying in wait at a traffic stop sign,

“The perpetrators attacked Makae when he was approaching the stop sign. Such acts of aggression and violence by communities often lead to prolonged power outages and delays the work of repairs. These also cause unnecessary post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety in our employees. As Centlec, we condemn such acts of violence,” said Mamatu.
