Multitudes of people are aggrieved following their eviction from land near Lourierpark by the Mangaung Metro Municipality, enforcing a high court order given on Wednesday, 6 March following amendment to the first order issued two-days before.
The remaining few have been given grace a period to vacate the land.
The land invasion by people claiming to be homeless and desperate for sites to build their homes on, was characterised by violent protest and clashes with the Public Order Police (PoP) during last week, 4 to 7 March.
The stand-off came in the event of disgruntled land invaders blocking the R706 road connecting traffic to Jagersfontein, using debris, stones and burning tyres.

The episode of the land invasion took another turn when scores were evicted on Friday by the Red Ant Security Relocation and Eviction Services. The company had been enlisted by the Mangaung Metro in the event of resistance by the land invaders.
The land in question was initially earmarked by the metro for township development.

An independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) report on the feasible development of a township extending to Lourierpark underscored various aspects, with large cost implications to establish a township.
The municipality had appointed an environmental management practitioner in 2017 for feasible development of a township on land of about 357 ha.
The report revealed that wetland areas existed and it had a risk of a floodline.
