The Lemo Mall Mangaung Marathon, in partnership with the Centre City Titaniums Athletics Club, staged the first edition of the event, attracting multitudes of runners from across the Free State and neighbouring provinces.
Budding and seasoned runners propelled their efforts to claim the prizes at stake in the 42,2 km, 21,1 km, 10 km, as well as the 5 km fun run categories.
According to the organiser, over 1 300 runners registered, and descended on Bloemfontein on Saturday, 4 May, in accordance with the marathon’s “Your Roots, Our Route” slogan.
The Mangaung Marathon was significant on three fronts: renewing the spirit of a marathon, making a marathon in the heart of township, and qualifying runners for the Comrades Marathon.
“Their resilience and perseverance embody the true essence of the Lemo Mall Mangaung Marathon, inspiring countless others to pursue their own fitness goals and overcome obstacles. Their remarkable feats serve as a testament to the power of dedication and discipline, inspiring us all to reach for new heights in our own lives. This was the biggest comrade’s qualifier marathon in central South Africa,” said Zizipho Majokweni, publicist of the marathon.
