Established and emerging entrepreneurs gained valuable information about starting, successfully managing, and investing to sustain business during a festival held at Paradise Hall in Bochabela, Bloemfontein. The festival was held on Friday, 3 May, and Saturday.

Known as the Mo-Dladleng SMME Summit, loosely translated to “home”, it is aimed at encouraging more local young people to explore the possibility of venturing into entrepreneurship.

Valuable information was shared during interactive workshops and panel discussions by entrepreneurs who started in their backyard. Fields the attendees were from, ranged from hospitality to manufacturing, bouquet making, publishing and engineering.

The importance of learning and providing work with pride was put in focus by Jabu Madela, who has successfully established his fully-fledged automotive service from his backyard in Bochabela. He strongly emphasised the importance of patience and financial management to first invest in establishing the business.

“The quality of work and product from your business is far-reaching. That is the face of you the person, the business and product. It underlies your pride,” said Madela.

He said part of the success was learning the phases of business and going the extra mile.
