Following a big rush by members of the public to a high-risk crime scene where a cash-in-transit heist occurred, outside the Lemo Mall in Bloemfontein, the police have strongly warned the public to refrain from such behaviour.

Several people on the scene were seen taking photos and video clips, which were later circulated. In these, a cash-in-transit vehicle and a BMW can be seen, the latter of which was used by armed robbers in the commission of the crime on Saturday, 25 May.

“This conduct not only poses a danger to their safety, but might also land them in trouble. During the collection of evidence at a scene of this nature, there might be forensic evidence that places such an individual on the scene even though they were not, as such, involved in the crime,” explained Capt. Loraine Earle, spokesperson for the Free State police.

She added the police’s probe into the heist had yielded the arrest of seven suspects, and the recovery of an undisclosed amount of money.
