BLOEMFONTEIN – A young writer from Bloemfontein, Thandeka Tlali (19), has joined the ranks of women memoirists who focus on themes of resilience, activism and survival. She debuted with a self-published memoir titled Whisper, documenting experiences that have shaped her life thus far.
Thandeka explained that her personal experiences, including self-introspection, inspired her to write the book. Through it, she hopes to inspire others.
“My book was born out of my life and personal experiences as a typical teenager – from seasons marked by emotional pressure, internal conflict, and moments where silence spoke louder than words. Writing the book became a way of processing the things I have lived through, turning personal truths into something meaningful and compelling,” she said.
In her non-fiction memoir, Thandeka sheds light on her personal memories and experiences that shaped her.
“I drew from experiences that challenged the way I saw myself and the world. Instead of telling them plainly, I reshaped them into a psychological thriller – a genre that allows me to explore fear, control, and the fragile edges of the human mind.
“Whisper was a breakthrough for me, not just as my debut book, but as the moment I learned how to transform personal pain and uncertainty into a story of hope,” said Thandeka.
The memoir is available online, and a copy can be purchased directly from the author by dialling 077 420 2900.
